White River

A River with endless recreation opportunities

The river stretches from east of Meeker all the way to the Green River in Utah. Running right through the heart of Rangely, the White River is a favorite local attraction for boating, fishing, and wildlife viewing. With gorgeous sandstone cliffs and lush vegetation in the warmer months, the White River provides a scenic backdrop on the northside of town.

No permit is required to float on the White River unless you are planning to take out or put in your vessel on Ute tribal lands. Since the river is one of the only major water sources in the arid climate, you have great opportunities to view a variety of local wildlife along its banks. The best time to float is from March through November when water levels are highest.
